Former director of state media RTB hits on suspicion of corruption

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN-A former director of Radio Television Brunei (RTB) was charged with corruption after an investigation allegedly accepting a luxury car instead of promoting an assistant head in the news department.
Hj Muhammad Suffian Hj Bungsu, now Deputy Secretary of State for the Prime Minister’s Office, is said to have accepted the Mercedes-AMG sports car from Jonathan Kochusen in 2014. RTB.
The Anti-Corruption Authority said the car was intended as a bribe to secure promotion.
Both men were charged in court on Monday under the Anti-Corruption Act, but were not pleaed. The defendant was released on court bail and will reappear before the Justice of the Peace on April 25.
They face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and a fine of up to $ 30,000 if convicted.
Deputy prosecutors Hjh Suriana Hj Radiin and Nurul Fitri Kiprawi appeared on behalf of the prosecutor, but neither defendant was represented by a lawyer.
