France exceeds 100,000 cases a day

Covid infections in France reached six digits, with health officials recording 104,611 cases in the last 24 hours, a record high for the third consecutive day.

The latest figures from the French public health agency will discuss new Covid security measures with President Emmanuel Macron and key members of his government prior to Monday’s video conference.

Authorities are concerned about the effects of the rapid spread of Omicron variants.

India administers vaccine over 15 years old in January

India has launched a Covid vaccination drive for adolescents and will begin boosting immunization to the at-risk adult population, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced.

“Omicron is a matter of debate so far,” Modi said.

It’s time to be “careful”, he added, announcing that the vaccine will be available to children over the age of 15 from January 3rd.

Israel buys 100K Pfizer anti-Covid pills

According to Israeli officials, Israel has ordered 100,000 units of Pfizer’s antiviral Covid-19 pill Paxlovid for people over the age of 12 who are at risk of severe illness.

Channel 12TV said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has agreed to a telephone conversation with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.

There was no immediate confirmation from the company.

According to Pfizer clinical trial data, Covid-19’s first oral and home treatment, Paxlovid, was nearly 90% effective in preventing hospitalization and death in patients at high risk of serious illness.

China reports 206 new Covid-19 cases

According to Chinese health officials, China reported 206 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus on 25 December. This is an increase from 140 cases the day before.

According to a statement from the National Health Commission, 158 of the new infections were locally transmitted, compared to 87 the day before. Most of the new local cases occurred in the northwestern part of Shaanxi Province.

China reported 29 new asymptomatic cases, which were classified separately from the confirmed cases and increased from 24 the previous day.

There were no new deaths, with 4,636 deaths. As of December 25, there were 101,077 confirmed cases in mainland China.

Dominican Republic reports first Omicron incident

According to the Caribbean Ministry of Health, the Dominican Republic has identified the first case of an Omicron variant of Covid-19.

In a Twitter statement, the ministry said Omicron was identified in a person with mild symptoms who arrived in the country from South Africa.

The ministry also said it was later informed by Chilean authorities that a person traveling to Chile from the Dominican Republic tested positive for Omicron.
