Generation Amazing ends 2021 with high preparation for Qatar 2022

Generation Amazing (GA) concludes its 11th year with the annual GA Youth Festival 2021 under the theme of “all-in”. Offering through a strategic partnership with the Qatar Foundation, the festival celebrated Arab solidarity through football alongside the FIFA Arab Cup.

Hundreds of young people from Qatar and the region participated in the festival held in the Qatar Foundation’s educational city. We worked with our partners to give participants the opportunity to learn about the transformational power of football and how to use it to make a positive impact on the community. With a particular focus on gender equality, inclusion and climate change, we promoted the use of football as a tool to accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The main highlight of the GA Festival was the participation of players who participated on various days throughout the festival, including Cafu, Luis Hernandez, Javier Mascherano and Sara Essam. Shortly before the festival, Generation Amazing was recognized in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to provide a pilot project under the name “Football Power Unity”, Peace and Sport. The project leverages a hybrid curriculum jointly created by IFRC and Generation Amazing to provide capacity building workshops throughout the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Argentina, Iraq, Myanmar and Uganda.

Since the recent outbreak of the Afghanistan crisis, Generation Amazing has mobilized Doha-based partners and volunteers to support the immense humanitarian efforts of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). As MOFA continues to provide shelter for Afghan refugees at a temporary stage, Generation Amazing is central to ensuring the creation of safe spaces for families and unaccompanied minors. Has played a key role. We have set up a nursery center to provide psychosocial support and respite care to adults in Afghanistan, while creating an interactive environment for boys and girls to learn through storytelling and art workshops. Through the support and dedication of Qatar’s Mactaba Children’s Library and more local and international partners, we have a secure space to restore, rebuild and establish a new social network at a temporary stage in Qatar. We continue to support hundreds of young people and adults from Afghanistan.

In November, when a friendly match between Qatar and Afghanistan women’s football was played at Khalifa International Stadium, one of the eight World Cup stadiums, the unity of football and the ability to break social barriers were emphasized. The match was hosted by Generation Amazing with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Qatar Football Association and the Qatar Women’s Sports Commission. In addition to friendly soccer matches, Generation Amazing has provided a development coach education course for women’s soccer and basketball teams in Afghanistan.

Earlier this year, Generation Amazing announced a collaboration with the Concacaf of the North and Central America and the Caribbean to support its member associations and their stakeholder communities throughout the region. The CONCACAF program aims to improve inclusion, gender equality and protection through football, especially for children and adolescents at risk of exclusion, substance abuse or violence.

At the WISE Summit 2021, Qatar’s scholarship program, Generation Amazing and Education Above All (EAA), launched the Qatar Connection on December 9, this year. After that, we welcomed a delegation of six students from Gaza to participate in the Generation Amazing Festival 2021 and provided festival participants with a workshop on soft skills through sports.

In August, Generation Amazing collaborated with EAA and UNDP Palestine to host a festival under the name Football for Gaza. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for children, youth and families to come together in the name of strength, resilience and dignity through sports to bring joy and a sense of belonging to many traumatized youth and children. Over the last decade, Generation Amazing has had a positive impact on more than 750,000 people and promises to reach 1 million beneficiaries by the start of the World Cup. Plans are under development to ensure that the legacy of Generation Amazing continues beyond 2022 and has a lasting impact around the world.
