Gilbert Agius to lead the national team in friendly games against Greece and Ireland

Gilbert Agius will serve as interim national A team coach for friendly matches against Greece and Ireland later this month.

This was announced by MFA president Bjorn Vassalo at the Malta Football Association’s General Assembly on Tuesday.

Vassallo said Agius, who is currently coaching the Malta U-21 national team, will lead the team in the two games.

Agius will be assisted by Davide Mazzotta and Alessandro Ginari. Ginari, who had been coordinator of the national team, was promoted to assistant national coach after the departure of Guillermo Giacomazzi, who left the association to join Spar in Italy.

The MFA president said after these games, the association will focus on appointing a new national coach to lead the national team from the European qualifiers kicking off in March.

Malta will play Greece on Thursday 17 November and Ireland on Sunday 20 November.
