Girls’ Generation Stars Among Real Estate Fraud Victims-Chosun Ilbo: Daily News from South Korea

Girls’ Generation Taeyeon is one of the approximately 3,000 victims being investigated by the 250 billion won real estate fraud police (US $ 1 = W1,170).

Fraudsters bought the reserve and tricked investors into saying that the value of the area would skyrocket.

Police said Thursday that they had arrested four people involved in the fraud. Fraudsters traveled around the country, including Songpa-gu and Gangdong-gu in Seoul, Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi-do, Wonju in Gangwon-do, and Mungyeong in Mungyeong-si, to buy land in nature reserves at low prices.

In the case of Taeyeon, fraudsters have set up a front company to buy protected land in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do for 400 million won and sell it for 1.1 billion won three months later.

Police interviewed about 280 victims and attacked the company’s Gangnam office. “We have been investigating the case since April and will soon hand it over to the prosecution,” police sources said. “We will continue to look for more victims.”

As rumors of the scandal spread, Taeyeon said on Instagram, “I wanted to find a family home near where I live. I’ve just been informed about the damage and I’m watching the situation. Please refrain from guessing. … “
