Giro: Nibali announces retirement at the end of the season-English

(ANSA)-On May 11th, Rome-Italy’s great cycling world Vincenzo Nibali announced on Wednesday that he would retire from the sport at the end of the season.

“This will be my last Giro,” shed tears, telling RAI TV in his hometown of Messina after the fifth stage of the 2022 Giro d’Italia.

“My career ends at the end of the season.”

The 37-year-old is just seven riders who won all three grand tours of cycling, winning the 2010 Vuelta a Espana, the 2014 Tour de France, and the 2013 and 2016 Giro d’Italia. Is one of them.

French Arnaud Démare won the sprint finish on Wednesday’s 105th Giro 5th stage, a 174km trek from Catania to Messina.

Juan Pedro Lopez Perez of Spain maintained the pink jersey of the overall leader. (ANSA).
