Google removes bad content over 61K in India

New Delhi: Google removed 61,114 content in November based on user complaints, the company said in a monthly report in compliance with the new Indian IT Rule 2021.

The tech giant received 26,087 complaints from Indian users in November. These complaints were related to third-party content that appears to be infringing on Google Platform’s local laws or personal rights.

This content has been removed in various categories such as Copyright: 25,013, Other Laws: 554, Trademarks: 232, Defamation: 187, Counterfeit: 43, Court Order: 29, Graphical Content: 15.

Google also said it had removed 375,468 content as part of its automatic detection during the period.

“In addition to user reports, we invest heavily in fighting harmful content online and use technology to detect and remove content from our platform,” Google said in its monthly compliance report. I am.

“This includes using an automated detection process for some products to prevent the spread of harmful content such as child sexual abuse and violent extremist content,” he added. ..

In accordance with the Information Technology (Interim Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Regulations, 2021 (“IT Regulations”), Google, along with other social media platforms, will publish a monthly transparency report containing details of complaints received from users in India. Actions performed that are required to be published, and delete actions performed as a result of auto-discovery.

Under the new IT Rule 2021, large digital and social media platforms with over 5 million users will need to publish monthly compliance reports.

“We value content reported under community guidelines, content policies, and / or legal policies,” Google said.
