Greece appoints a special envoy to the West Balkans

Greek Ambassador to Bucharest Sophia Gramata has been appointed as Special Envoy to the West Balkans of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry said in a press release Wednesday.

He added that the decision made by Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias shows that Greece “puts the highest priority on strengthening peace, security and stability” in a wider area.

“In this regard, we will promote the strengthening of bilateral relations based on respect for international law and the law of the sea, and actively support the European perspective of the West Balkans.”

Gramata took over the Greek envoy to Romania with simultaneous accreditation to Moldova in 2019. She was previously the Director of the Southeastern Europe Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She continues to perform her new duties in parallel with her existing duties.
