The Ombudsman said it violated a directive set by the European Court of Human Rights for legally violating these cases.

This report also received 21 pushback reports last year. In these cases, the victims were often not properly interviewed, some of the photographs and other evidence were incorrect, and some of the incidents were presented as occurring outside Greece.

Independent authorities, which also act as national authorities for the investigation of arbitrary abuse cases in 2021, said most of these cases had not been fully tracked by the authorities. Most of the disciplinary cases were recommended to be submitted, but if the ombudsman recommended further sanctions, the penalties proposed to police officers were insignificant.

According to the Ombudsman Office, orders to carry out internal disciplinary investigations following reported abuse cases have been forwarded to the Ombudsman by the Greek Police and the Hellenic Coast Guard, as well as Frontex and the State Council, as required by law. rice field.
