Grim photos reveal brutal conditions at Sligo residence where Gardai seized six dogs after search

COPS seized six dogs in Sligo yesterday after searching 14 residences in the county.

Based in the Sligo Division, Gardai participated in the work of the Sligo County Council and the Irish Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Cooperative Agencies in the Districts of Sligo and Ballymoat.

According to Gardai, the operation targeted persons suspected of owning, using, or breeding restricted breeds of dangerous dogs.

During the course of the search, multiple animal health and welfare notices were issued by the ISPCA.

A number of detections have been made in connection with suspected violations of the Dog Control Act and violations of regulations under the Dog Microchip Regulations of 2015.

Six dogs were seized in the course of the search operation, including one German Shepherd Malamute, four American Staffordshire Terriers, and one mixed-breed dog.

The puppy is currently in ISPCA custody and undergoing treatment.

No arrests have been made and Gardaí continues to investigate.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: , Friday 3 February 2023.

“A total of 14 premises were searched. During the course of the search, multiple Animal Health and Welfare Notices were issued by the ISPCA.

“A number of detections have been made in connection with violations of dog control laws and regulations under the 2015 Dog Microchip Regulations.

“Six dogs were seized during the course of the search operation, including one German Shepherd Malamute, four American Staffordshire Terriers and one mixed breed dog.”

Bluff and Pallas Green Gardai from Garda Station and Limerick City and County Council officials conducted a search in Pallas Green.

Under Section 45 of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013, 19 dogs were seized after inspection by a veterinarian.

Dogs included 15 Pit Bull Terriers, 2 Alsatians, and 2 Rottweilers. No arrests were made.
