Health officials respond to suspected chlorine leak at chemical plant

PITTSBURGH — Health workers in Contra Costa County are responding to a suspected chlorine leak near a local chemical plant and warning residents to be aware of possible health hazards.

The department's hazardous materials team responded to the incident at the Corteva Agriscience facility, located on Robridge Road, about 2.6 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh. Corteva is an agricultural manufacturing company that makes fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and seed treatments to protect against weeds and diseases.

People in the area may experience eye, skin, nose and throat irritation, the department said.

If you experience irritation, go indoors and rinse the irritated area of ​​your body with water. People with respiratory sensitivities should exercise caution and avoid the area.
