Hiker dies after falling near Lucca

(ANSA) – ROME, Aug 22 – A 28-year-old hiker died Monday after falling in the northern Tuscan mountains near Lucca.

A woman from Florence fell on the road of Monte Macina in Alta Garfagnana, in the comune of Vagri di Sotto (Lucca).

She was with her boyfriend when she fell.

Mountain rescuers rushed to the scene but could do nothing for her.

My boyfriend was watching the body being recovered from the top of the mountain.

The bodies were helicoptered out of the area.

An autopsy was ordered.

There have been a number of fatal hiking accidents in Italy recently.
