Housing Alliance: Contract – Berlin.de

The Berlin Alliance for new home construction and affordable housing has agreed on several steps to accelerate construction in Berlin and delay rent development.

At least 100,000 new homes by 2026

Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffy (SPD) said in an announcement of the agreement that he “achieved more than is being discussed in other federal states.” According to the agreement, at least 100,000 new apartments will be completed in Berlin by 2026. In the future, development plans will be available within three years. At the same time, up to 5,000 public housing will be funded annually. The 2022 and 2023 budgets allocate € 740 million to this.

Self-commitment of a private housing company

In addition, large private housing companies promise to reserve 30% of their apartments for tenants who qualify for a Work Breakdown (WBS) upon re-rental. Alliance partners also agreed that there should be no increase in net cold rent that would lead to a burden of more than 30% of the net household income of WBS eligible households.
