Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, has laid off nearly half of the company’s employees.

For a guy who loves making headlines, spending $44 billion to buy one of the world’s largest social media platforms is one way to do it.

But the world’s richest man’s deal was plagued from the start.

Musk tried to pull out before signing last week, avoiding a major legal battle.

As soon as the ink on the contract was dry, he set about firing nearly half of the employees who were locked out of Twitter’s IT systems via email.

Among those who left included staff with expertise in human rights and hate speech.

Twitter moderated content, specifically ousting former US President Donald Trump.

Some major advertisers have said they are holding off on business until they see what happens next.

So what’s next for Twitter?
