How has Bosch Car Service evolved over the last 100 years?

What are the technology trends that disrupt automotive aftermarket services in the Middle East?
From the rise of advanced technology to sustainability concerns and changing consumer tastes, industries everywhere are in turmoil. For the automotive industry, the increasing adoption of digitalization and automation has incredibly transformative implications. Cars are no longer purely mechanical products, but are evolving into road-based computers.

What does that mean for aftermarket services across the Middle East? First and foremost, traditional mechanic car workshops will become more and more digital. Everything that was once paper-based, such as instruction manuals, is a thing of the past. In addition, diagnostics and troubleshooting are no longer dependent on the understanding of the car mechanic, using digital tools and sensors used to identify problems at hand. At Bosch, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting has been available for many years at Bosch Car Services workshops, providing access to digital expertise.

Ultimately, car maintenance will be fully automated, eliminating the need to go to a work shop. Thanks to the Internet of Things, connectivity, and artificial intelligence, car owners are informed that they need to perform diagnostics remotely to refuel, service, and repair their cars. Eventually, you will be able to remotely manage the entire service process. It’s not yet clear what the workshop will look like in the future, but at Bosch you can imagine some scenarios. In collaboration with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, we have developed various future strategies. For example, repairs can be booked in the app and you can drive your vehicle to a workshop. Alternatively, you can request repair service at a location of your choice. Experts meet at home, at work, or elsewhere. Alternatively, a third option is to provide some kind of construction set, allowing car owners to perform their own tasks under the direction of Bosch’s car service professionals.

When it comes to shared mobility, the market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.42 percent from 2019 to 2026 globally. This is one space that everyone is paying attention to. However, with the pandemic, innovative shared mobility methods such as electric bicycles have been introduced. This will shorten the social distance and actively contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral environment.
