Hungary is probably not the first place to come to mind when thinking of Hollywood celebrities. But Hungary is the birthplace of many truly wonderful stars. This is evidenced by the fact that we are well represented in the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Hungarians who have won stars in the Hollywood Walk of Fame are:
Houdini is probably one of the most famous Hungarians, but many do not know his Hungarian origin. Harry Houdini was born in Budapest as Eric Wise. He is one of the greatest free artists in history and one of the best performers in the world.
There are many myths and legends surrounding Houdini’s life and death.
He was elected president of the Society of American Magicians nine times. The words of the Nobel Prize-winning playwright George Bernard Shaw are a good example of how famous Houdini was. According to Shaw, the most talked-about names in the world are Jesus, Sherlock Holmes, and Houdini.
Gabor Sari was a Golden Globe Award-winning Hungarian actress, beauty queen, model and businessman.
She was one of the most famous Hollywood sex symbols of the 20th century.
Zsa Zsa has been recognized by many of the world’s first celebrities. She became Miss Hungary in 1936 and moved to Hollywood in 1941. Her films, beauty and scandals made her widely known. She died in Los Angeles in 2016 near the age of 100.
Bela Lugosi became world-famous for her depiction of the vampire Count Dracula. Lugosi, the legendary figure in classic horror movies, was born in 1882. He began his acting career in Timisoara, Debrecen and Szeged. He arrived in New Orleans in 1920.
1931 is the year he starred in the movie Dracula.
It was both a blessing and a curse. He was immediately addicted to the horror genre. Also in ’31 he was offered the role of Frankenstein’s monster.
Paul Lukas is an Oscar and Golden Globe Award-winning Hungarian actor.
In 1927, Adolf’s Cole, president of the Hungarian Paramount Pictures Studios, invited him to Hollywood.
He has appeared in over 60 movies. In 1943, he won an Academy Award for his performance on the Watch on the Rhine.
Fried Birmos was born in Hungary in 1879.
He was the producer and founder of FoxFilm Corporation.
He is of Jewish origin and his family emigrated to the United States when he was nine months old. He founded Fox Film Corporation in 1915. He went bankrupt in 1936, but his name remains in 20th Century Fox and elsewhere.
