Hyundai Kia sets a new record in Europe-Chosun Ilbo (English version): Daily newspaper from South Korea

Hyundai and its affiliate Kia achieved record sales in Europe in the first half of this year.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on Sunday, two South Korean automakers sold 556,369 cars in the region in the first half of this year, up 12.6% year-on-year. The previous record was set in the first half of 2018 when they sold 555,062 cars.

Analysts attribute the excellent performance to the popularity of new electric vehicles. Kia’s EV6 won the European Car of the Year Award earlier this year, and Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 was named Car of the Year in Germany and the United Kingdom.

Vehicle sales in Europe as a whole fell 13.7% year-on-year to 5.6 million units in the first half, with only Hyundai and Kia confirming an increase in vehicle sales among the top five companies in the region.

Their European market share increased from 7.6% in 2021 to 9.9% this year, surpassing Renault (9.3%) to take third place. The Volkswagen Group (24.1%) was the first, followed by Stellantis (19.4%).

Their bestseller was Kia Ceed (78,890), followed by Kia Sportage (72,400).
