IBS: Irritable bowel syndrome

Recently, I’ve been dealing with a lot of cases of irritable bowel syndrome, or what is known as a colon problem. The reason for IBS is still unknown and can occur suddenly. Common symptoms include flatulence, abdominal gas, constipation, and diarrhea at the same time. And these symptoms can be exacerbated by stress.

For all IBS patients, dietary changes do significantly reduce their symptoms. However, you need to be careful with all the foods you eat to see which items are causing the extra discomfort. One caveat to keep in mind is that symptoms are very personal and individual, and one symptom can affect one person but not another. That is.

Nutritional changes: Skipping meals, lowering fiber and water intake, eating fatty foods, hypersensitivity to milk and other dairy products, as the first steps to alleviate the symptoms of IBS, Poor diets such as overdose of caffeine and alcohol need to be changed.

The most common diet is a high fiber diet, especially for people suffering from constipation. However, some patients may not be able to benefit from an increase in dietary fiber that can exacerbate their symptoms. Therefore, fiber growth is gradual and requires a variety of fiber and adequate fluid intake of at least 1.5 liters per day.

Symptoms of IBS tend to increase after a large diet, especially if the diet is high in fat or if the diet is eaten quickly. You should try dividing your diet into five small and healthy ones.

Avoid eating immediately and try to relax after a meal.

As mentioned earlier, flatulence is a major symptom of IBS. Some foods should be completely excluded from the diet and gradually reintroduced once the problem is resolved. Items include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, capsicum, beans, fouls, hummus, bulgur, lens beans, or couscous. Carbonated soft drinks should also be excluded.

Some people with irritable bowel syndrome need to try to eliminate all sources of lactose from their diet because of lactose intolerance. Lactose is mainly found in dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt. Keep in mind that these foods provide us with important nutrients and that reduced consumption of them can affect our calcium and vitamin D levels. The workaround is to start taking the supplement.

Immediately after eating onions and garlic, some people experience extreme abdominal pain and extreme bloating. In this case, these two items should also be excluded.

Here’s my personal advice for people suffering from IBS:

  • Keep a diary of your food, moisture and symptoms as it will help you track your case
  • Start with the basics of three low-fat, high-fiber diets, including two light meals daily.Drink 1.5 liters of water daily and avoid excessive water
    Ingestion of soft drinks and caffeine. Eat slowly and relax your meal time as much as possible.
  • When symptoms subside, gradually reintroduce the excluded foods.
  • Consider consulting a dietitian for personalized advice on diet and changes.
