Sweden is ready to offer the Czech Republic a free Gripen fighter. Sweden’s Czech Ambassador to the Czech Republic Fredrick Jorgensen told the Czech press in an interview if the government chose to support Gripen aircraft after the loan expired. He said the plane would be modernized and the Czech Republic would be able to buy the latest version of the Gripen aircraft, the Gripen E. According to the ambassador, Swedish manufacturer Saab was able to deliver the new machine without long waiting times. He also pointed out that the Czech army would not need to change the base facilities required for the aircraft. The Czech Republic has leased 12 Gripen C / D fighters from Sweden in a single-seat version and two in a two-seat version. The lease expires in 2027 and can be extended for two years.
The Fiara government needs to determine the fighter aircraft used by the Czech army as soon as possible after the lease of the Swedish Gripen aircraft ends in 2027. Both the United States and Sweden are interested in a billion crown contract.
