India voted against Russia for the first time at UNSC during procedural vote on Ukraine

India voted against Russia in a “procedural vote” on Ukraine held at the UN Security Council on Wednesday.

It was the first time India voted against Russia on Ukraine since the Russian military operation began in February. So far, New Delhi has abstained from the U.N. Security Council on the Ukraine issue, much to the displeasure of the US-led West.

Following the aggression, Western powers, especially the United States, slapped tough economic and other sanctions on Russia.

India does not condemn Russia’s actions against Ukraine and has repeatedly urged Russia and the Ukrainian side to return to the path of diplomacy and negotiations, and supports all diplomatic attempts to end the crisis between the two countries. there is

India is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, with a two-year term that expires in December.

Marking Ukraine’s 31st anniversary of independence, the UN Security Council met on Wednesday to assess the six-month conflict. As the conference began, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia called for a procedural vote on the Ukrainian president’s participation in the teleconference.

Following the words of him and Albanian Prime Minister Ferit Hoxha, the board invited Zelenskiy to join the meeting via video conference call with a vote of 13 to 1. Russia and China voted against such an invitation.

Speaking via videoconference, Zelensky demanded that the Russian Federation be held accountable for its actions against Ukraine. “If Moscow is not stopped now, these Russian killers will definitely end up in other countries,” he continued.

“It is Ukraine’s territory that determines the future of the world,” he added. “Our independence is your security,” he told the UNSC.

The Ukrainian president has called on Russia to end its “nuclear blackmail” and withdraw completely from its nuclear power plants.

Ukraine celebrated its Independence Day on Wednesday. This was also just six months after the February 24 start of the Russian military offensive against Ukraine.
