Inflation hits 8.4%, highest level since 1985

(ANSA) – ROME, Aug 31 – Italy’s annual inflation reached 8.4% this month, the highest since December 1985 when it was 8.8%, preliminary data released by ISTAT on Wednesday showed.

Inflation was 7.9% in July.

The rise was due to higher energy prices, which rose 44.9% in August compared to 42.9% in July, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The consumer price index rose 0.8% month-on-month, according to ISTAT. (ANSA).
