International conference on women, peace and security held in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi will host the International High-Level Conference on Women, Peace and Security (ICWPS) from 8-10 September. Women’s Union (GWU), UN Women, Arab League, Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

The event is held under the auspices of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairman of the GWU, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Children and Chairman of the Family Development Foundation.

The purpose of this conference is to review achievements and challenges in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which emphasizes the importance of women’s equal participation in maintaining peace and security in conflict areas.

We are also seeking consensus on concrete steps to implement the UAE’s National Action Plan. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the UAE’s ICWPS organization is based on a belief in the important role women play in all spheres.

He recognized the UAE’s firm commitment to achieving gender equality and enhancing the role of women in society. The conference will be attended by international decision-makers, dignitaries, diplomats, women from the Arab region and around the world, and advocates concerned with peace and security issues.

It will address how to reach the ambitious goal set by the United Nations to increase the participation of women in UN peacekeeping forces. For example, increasing the proportion of women in units with military duties to about 15% and her proportion in units with police duties to 20%. By 2028.
