Iran uses Syrian facilities for weapons production – Israel
Israel’s defense minister said Iran was also working to build a missile and weapons industry in Lebanon and Yemen.
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Iran is using more than 10 military facilities in Syria to produce advanced missiles and weapons for its proxy.
For several years, Israel has stepped up its attacks on alleged Iran-related targets in Syria.
There were no immediate comments from the Iranian and Syrian regimes on Monday, but Damascus has refused to comment on such accusations in the past and Tehran has denied building production capacity across the Middle East.
At a meeting in New York, Gantz showed a map of what he said were military installations at the Center D’Etudes et de Recherches Scientifiques (CERS), a Syrian regime agency involved in producing missiles and weapons for Iran. presented.
“Iran has turned CERS into a production facility for medium- and long-range precision missiles and weapons to be provided to Hezbollah and Iranian agents. It has become a strategic weapons factory,” said Gantz.
Strikes attributed to Israel have recently intensified at Syrian airports to block Tehran’s increasing use of air supply lines to deliver weapons to allies in Syria and Lebanon, including Hezbollah. a regional diplomatic and intelligence source told Reuters.
Israeli strikes have repeatedly targeted the Masyaf region, a zone west of the Hama District where Gantz said underground weapons production facilities threaten Israel and the region.
“Specifically, Masyaf is being used to build advanced missiles,” he said.
Gantz added that Iran is also working to build missile and weapons industries in Lebanon and Yemen.
“If this trend is not stopped, Iran’s advanced industries will emerge throughout the region within a decade, producing weapons and spreading terrorism,” he said.
