Ismail Sabri leaves New York for the UAE

NEW YORK, Sept. 25 (Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Ya’akob arrived in the United Arab Emirates (U AE) left. .

He arrived here on Thursday to join other world leaders from more than 150 countries at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Ismail Sabri delivered the country’s national statement at the UNGA on Friday and addressed the Bahasa Melayu. He also touched on international issues such as the Ukraine conflict, Myanmar-Palestinian issues, food security, and climate change.

He also proposed the establishment of an international monetary cooperation mechanism amid rising global inflation.

This was the second time Ismail Sabri has addressed the UNGA. He virtually read out the country’s statement at last year’s 76th session because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Ismail Sabri met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

He also hosted a “Keluarga Malaysia” (Malaysian Family) Dinner for the Malaysian Diaspora in the United States.

The second part of Ismail Sabri’s international business trip is a four-day trip to the UAE from September 26th to 29th.

He is scheduled to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

This will be the first meeting between the two leaders since Sheikh Mohammed took office as the UAE’s new president on May 14.

High on the agenda of the meeting between the two leaders will be discussions to explore potential areas for further strengthening the longstanding multilateral cooperation between Malaysia and the UAE.

Ismail Sabri will also visit Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to explore possible cooperation in oil and gas and renewable energy between ADNOC and Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Bhd).

In 2021, the UAE was Malaysia’s largest trading partner, second largest export destination and second largest source of imports among West Asian countries.

Malaysia’s total trade with the UAE in 2021 increased by 7.9% to RM2.229 billion (US$5.38 billion) from RM20.65 billion (US$4.93 billion) in 2020.
