Jerusalem: Israel has approved a fourth vaccination for those most vulnerable to COVID-19. This will be the first country to do this in preparation for the wave of infection caused by the Omicron mutant.
Nuffman Ash, Secretary of Health, announced the decision at a press conference late Thursday.
He states that this decision is based on early studies and authorities will consider expanding the fourth dose to more people when assessing the situation.
Israel was one of the first countries to deploy Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine a year ago and began offering boosters freely last summer. However, there was still a wave of infections blamed on the delta variant, and authorities warned of another infection caused by the rapidly spreading Omicron.
At the beginning of Thursday, Israel received the first shipment of pills to treat the worst effects of COVID-19.
