Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his government opposes Palestinian construction in Area C of the occupied West Bank.
“We changed course and came to power with a clear promise to fight illegal Palestinian construction,” Netanyahu said while chairing a meeting of the Likud bloc.
“This does not mean permitting illegal Israeli construction, and there is comprehensive agreement on these two points.”
He pointed out that the consensus would “nullify” his political opponents’ hopes of dismantling the coalition.
Last Friday, Israeli forces were evacuated from the Urheim settlement outpost, less than 24 hours after its establishment.
In response, Israeli State Security Minister Itamar Ben Gubir announced that he would demand immediate evacuation from the Palestinian town of Khan al-Ahmar.
The plan to forcibly evict the inhabitants of Al-Khan Al-Ahmar’s Bedouin village is part of a project to Jewish Jerusalem to complete its isolation from the occupied West Bank.
