The Israeli Ministry of Energy said on Wednesday that more Israeli natural gas would flow to Egypt via a new route through Jordan by the end of February.
The ministry said the new route was approved due to growing demand in Egypt, which produces its own gas but needs to be imported from Israel’s Leviathan offshore gas field. Leviathan also supplies Jordan.
According to the ministry, about 2.5 to 3 billion cubic meters (bcm) will flow into Egypt via a new route in 2022, which could increase to 4bcm in the next few years.
