Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the country is beginning to see the end of a wave of highly infectious Omicron variants.
“We are seeing the beginning of the trend of Omicron wave stabilization,” Bennett said during a live broadcast at the beginning of his weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday.
Xinhua News Agency also expressed Bennett’s cautious optimism, saying that “it is out of place to celebrate the end of Omicron by choosing words carefully to avoid the” end of semester “atmosphere.”
But he added that Israel is now “handling hospital congestion and a large number of infected people.”
The statement indicates that the reproduction rate of the coronavirus, known as the R number, fell below 1 for the first time in months, according to a report released by the Ministry of Health on Sunday morning.
Since the pandemic in early 2020, Israel has reported a total of 2,830,161 Covid-19 cases and 8,725 deaths.
