Israeli President on an official visit to the Czech Republic

Israeli President Isaac Herzog is making an official visit to the Czech Republic. He will be honored by Czech Prime Minister Miloš Zeman at Prague Castle on Monday morning and will meet with Prime Minister Petr Fiara and the leaders of both Houses. The talks are expected to cover bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of defense, business relations and the Czech President of the Council of the European Union.

During the meeting, President Milos Zeman apologized to President Herzog for the position of Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky on the report of the UN Human Rights Council on Israel. He said he was disappointed that the Czech Republic had not joined the countries blaming the report. The Foreign Ministry earlier announced that it had taken a clear position on the Commission in May last year when the Czech Republic voted against the establishment. In the report, the Commission stated that the main causes of tensions between Israel and Palestinians were the occupation of Palestinian territory by Israel and the actions of the Jewish state against Palestinians.
