Israeli Prime Minister, President of Palestine speaks prior to Biden’s visit – Middle East Monitor

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid spoke on the phone with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday. Anadolu Agency Report.

The two leaders discussed cooperation between the Palestinian Authority and Israel, and the need to maintain regional stability, Rapid’s office said in a statement.

During the contact, Abbas congratulated Rapid as Prime Minister, who offered his supreme wish to Palestinian leaders on the occasion of Eid al-Adha starting Saturday.

Eid al-Adha is the culmination of the annual Mecca pilgrimage rituals in Saudi Arabia.

Hussein Al Sheikh, executive committee secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), tweeted in a contact that “we had a brief discussion about the latest situation.”

The call was made between Abbas and the incumbent Prime Minister of Israel for the first time in five years.

The contact preceded next week’s planned visit to Israel and Ramallah by US President Joe Biden.

On Thursday, Abbas met with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz at his office in Ramallah.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett refused to meet or talk to Abbas when he was in power.

Rapid took office earlier this month until the early elections on November 1.
