Italy’s population to fall by 11.5 million over 50 years – ISTAT

(ANSA) – ROME, Sept 22 – Italy’s population will decline by 11.5 million over the next 50 years, the national statistics agency ISTAT said on Thursday.
With continued population decline, the population will fall from 59.2 million on January 1, 2021 to 57.9 million in 2030, 54.2 in 2050 and 47.7 in 2070, according to the latest research institute. said in its demographic projections.
The ratio of working-age (ages 15-64) to the rest of the population (ages 0-14 and 65+) will be about 1:1 in 2050, up from about 3:2 in 2021. .
In 10 years, 4 out of 5 Italian cities and 9 out of 10 Italian cities are expected to have a declining population.
According to ISTAT, people will have fewer and fewer children in the future.
By 2041, only 1 in 4 households is projected to have a child.
