“It’s a miracle that everyone came alive” – Nassau Guardian

Three friends, Le’Annka Rigby, Nia Bethel-Sears, and Allicia Rolle, have been postponed for a long time to hang out.

So they booked a girl’s trip to Long Island during regatta time.

After Bahamasair canceled the flight, they were able to board the charter.

The 28-year-old Roll was initially worried about flying on a small plane, but has been doing well since pilot Brad McPhee went up into the air at Piper Navajo from Nassau to Long Island last Thursday. I sailed.

“On the way, it was great, so my fears subsided,” Roll said. “I felt very comfortable with pilot Makfi.”

According to Roll, once on Long Island, where Rigby has a family, his friends didn’t do much at night, but they exploded for the three days they were there.

They toured the island. They ate sheep tongue sauce. They visited the Columbus Monument. They stopped by Deans Blue Hall to check out the festival at the regatta site.

However, their fun weekend has undergone a tragic change after Makfi took off from Deadman’s Kay Airport with three friends and three other women around 9am. 6 months old.

Only New Bold was killed when the plane crashed into a bush about two miles from the airport.

It even took days for some survivors to speak publicly about the incident.

Shortly after takeoff, I remembered the roll sitting on the left side of the plane, an alarm sounded, and the sides of the plane flashed.

“I noticed something was wrong, but I thought it was like a wing. It wasn’t a big deal,” Roll said.

“I was trying to stay as positive as possible. I didn’t want to panic.

“At some point, the plane made some movements, but realized that everything went wrong. Then it plunged and first began to notice the danger of the plane collapsing, Still, I wasn’t afraid. I was processing everything like a very calm state. “

She continued. “The pilot pulled up the plane. We were level again and the plane began to descend from the tail. At that time, we really noticed that the plane was going down and accepted it.”

Roll said her friend Bethel Sears grabbed her hand.

“I remember closing my eyes because the plane leaned so badly on my side after the plane went down at the tail end,” Roll said.

“I was sitting right behind the pilot, Nia was sitting right in front of me, and there was a door. That was the moment we realized we were going. [crash].. He closed his eyes and held Nia’s hand.

“I had Nia’s hand in my right hand and my phone in my left hand, and when I closed my eyes, I honestly felt like I was hitting the ground, but that was all. I couldn’t hear anything.”

Asked what came to her mind when she was holding hands with a friend, Roll said: I didn’t expect her to die for a second. I surrendered at that very moment and said “OK”, and it seems that it happened a couple of seconds later. “

Roll said, “Rhiannon, she was shocked and unconscious, and unfortunately Alitea Newbold was kicked out of the plane by shock. She was sitting on the other side of the door, so when she was off the plane. I noticed. “

They crawled the plane as soon as possible, fearing it would explode. Roll said he remembers the smell of fuel.

After they got off, Roll said, they were still afraid that the plane might blow up.

She, Bethel-Sears and Higgs, scrambled nearby bushes.

Riggby returned to help after a pilot who was CPRing to Newbold asked her for help.

“I was only afraid when I thought the plane might have flown. I didn’t know how far I could escape because I didn’t have the space,” Roll said.

“The bushes were crowded. At that point I thought it was a battle against time, so I wasn’t afraid of the plane at all.”

According to Roll, only she and the pilot were using their cell phones after the crash.

She said she immediately called 911 to get help, as the pilot did.

In the bush, she said she noticed that Bethel Sears and Higgs were seriously injured because of movement and breathing problems.

Roll said her injuries were minor, so she worked hard to calm them down and ensured that help was on the way.

She also called her parents and Bethel Sears’ parents.

Meanwhile, she could hear Makfi and Rigby encouraging New Bold to do their best.

“I heard they were staying,” you had to be with us. You had to be with us, “she said, New Bold. He added that he did not immediately realize that he did not survive the crash.

“I first met her that day. It was just surreal. It could have been any of us. It was a matter of seating arrangements and a series of events, but Patzi in the bush gave the baby a baby. Knowing that I kept saying that I had a baby made me feel terrible. I couldn’t even imagine. “

Roll said it took at least an hour for first responders to arrive and was surprised that they arrived as early as they arrived, given where the plane crashed (a very difficult place to access). Said.

“They had to have Cutlass,” she added.

“They were breaking the branches by hand. Someone had to break the branches to help the plane return to where it was. At that point, they (Bethel-Sears and Higgs) ) Couldn’t make many bends under the branches and couldn’t really afford it. At that point we still didn’t know what was wrong and they were so distressed that they stepped off or fell. I was sick. “

Roll is grateful to the rescuers who bravely confronted the harsh conditions to help them.

“I really appreciate the quick reaction of the locals,” she said.

“Thanks to the Coast Guard. They were very empathetic and very professional.”

After being treated at a clinic in Long Island, they were taken to New Providence via the United States Coast Guard chopper and finally returned home, but in some circumstances it was unimaginable hours ago.

“Despite the unimaginable pain that Aleitheia died, I don’t know how it feels. [for her loved ones] And I feel terrible. It’s a miracle that people were able to get away from a plane crash, “said Roll, who works for the Sustainable Development Goals unit at the Prime Minister’s Office.

“I can’t explain. Only God knows. I was afraid of height and I knew why I wasn’t afraid or I would be okay, so as God was with me on the plane I feel. “ “It’s a miracle that everyone came alive” – Nassau Guardian
