By Nawara Fattahova

After four years of preparatory work, the Jahra Nature Reserve is finally open to the public. The protected area, managed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), welcomes visitors daily from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The reserve extends over an area of 18 square kilometers, from Kwaisat in the north to Javert Al-Ahmad in the south.

Advance online booking is required to visit the Jahra Sanctuary. Only two groups can participate at a time for 90 minutes. Admission is a minimum of KD 10 for groups of 5 or less, and KD 2 will be added for each additional person. Visitors will need to park their car outside the reserve and will be taken to a golf cart for a tour of the reserve.

“The lakes in this reserve are different from other nature reserves in Kuwait. In addition to local birds, about 330 migratory birds can be found here. If visitors are lucky, foxes and other You may see predators, “EPA’s public relations department Nasser al-Sinmari told the Kuwait Times.

The vast area of the reserve is covered with phragmites, a plant rarely found in other parts of Kuwait. “The reason we grow here is mainly because the soil is always moist. There are about 70 species of plants, including mangroves that grow near the sea. Many of these plants are not found elsewhere. The Kuwaiti soap opera is filmed here, “he pointed out.

“The residents of Jahra called the fenced area Kadoma as a protectorate in 1987. There are now two observatories here, which will soon grow to nine. Each group will have one. We will use observatories, and we will continue to improve these observatories by adding seats and tables to allow visitors to rest, ”explains Shinmari.

Opening the Jahra Reserve to the public, according to EPA officials, aims to initiate local ecotourism, especially after a pandemic, given the lack of domestic recreational facilities. EPA officials say more protectors and protectors will be opened by the EPA in the future, especially in the southern part of the country, to function as a national park. Another park will soon open near Doha’s Jahra Reserve to serve the inhabitants of the area.To book your visit, please visit the official website www.epa.gov.kw
