Jeddah Corniche Witnesses Twin Tragedy on Saturday

Jeddah — Last Saturday, Muharram 8 was a tragic day for Jedawis. One eminent physician and eminent scholar lost his life trying to save another from drowning.

Hours after Dr. Afaf Ferrimban left the waters of Jeddah, a Saudi scholar died while trying to save his son from drowning. Both died tragically during a holiday trip to Jeddah over the weekend.

Dr. Hussein Muhammad Al-Habasi, assistant professor of law in the judicial department of Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah, arrived in Jeddah Corniche with his family. Seeing his son swimming, he jumped into the sea to help him. Al-Habasi succeeded in saving his son from drowning, but he was unable to get out of the water as he was swept into the depths of the sea by a huge wave.

Dr. Afaf Ferrimban, a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh, and her colleague Rina Taha also drowned on Saturday in the Jeddah Corniche. Huge waves almost overwhelm them.

Dr. Afaf arrived in Jeddah last Thursday for the weekend to visit family. Many of her close relatives attended the Janatha prayers for her and gathered at her cemetery for her funeral to express her condolences on her tragic departure.

Meanwhile, the Department of Judicial Studies and Regulation at Umm Al-Qura University, where Dr Al-Habasi worked, mourned the passing of Dr. In a press statement, the faculty said:

According to the statement, Dr. Al-Habasi joined the faculty as a scholar in 1441 after receiving a doctorate in jurisprudence from Umm Al-Qura University in 1438. He was known for his teaching, good relations with students, dedication, and altruism in his work. Janaza’s prayers were offered at his mosque in Mecca, and his body was buried in the al-Shahada cemetery in al-Sharayeh.

One of Dr. Al Habashi’s students mourned him, saying: His exemplary conduct, illustrious career record, and valuable knowledge will never be forgotten, even after all these years. ”
