Jeddah — The Red Sea city of Jeddah will host the World Heavyweight Boxing Finals on August 20, 2022. The organizers announced here on Sunday.
The Ministry of Sports confirmed in a statement that the province of Jeddah will host the Red Sea battle to nominate a world heavyweight boxing champion between Oleksandr Usyk (Ukraine) and Anthony Joshua (England).
Joshua was beaten after a unanimous decision when the pair faced each other at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last September and is aiming for redemption in Jeddah.
Usyk won the title in front of a crowd of 60,000, but his rivals complained that the meeting would be repeated. This is the first such incident in sports history since 1999.
In a statement emphasizing the event, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Alfaisal, who is also the chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, said the event was under the guidance of the guardians of King Salman 2 St. Mosque.
