Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey thanked former world boxing champion Henry Maske for his longstanding commitment to low-income children.

On Wednesday, Giffey visited the Henry Musk Foundation holiday camp in Beetsee (Potsdam-Mittelmark) with the former boxing pro. “Holiday offers like this allow socially disadvantaged children a participation in life that is often denied them otherwise,” said Giffey.

In Berlin, nearly one in three children live in a home that benefits from basic security, the mayor explained. “The purpose of holiday camps is to give children and young people self-esteem, take a week away from their routine and come back with an enhanced mood.”

More than 500 children participated in this year’s summer camp

Maske has been involved with his foundation for socially disadvantaged and poverty-stricken children for more than 20 years, the news agency said. More than 500 children, including one, spent part of their summer vacation at summer camp.
