Kuwait: The following is a report on major events related to the Diet throughout 2021.
March 3: The Constitutional Court dismissed the appeal for the illegality of the December 2020 election.
March 14: The Constitutional Court has revoked MP Bader Al-Dahoum membership.
March 30: Parliament begins its regular meeting after a one-month suspension under Amiri’s legislation. The minister swore in front of the house.
March 30: Parliament approved the Prime Minister’s request to postpone the questions submitted to the Prime Minister until the end of the Prime Minister’s second term. It also approved an optional six-month grace period for citizens with financial commitments to various institutions, regional banks and financial institutions under the umbrella of the Central Bank of Kuwait.
March 30: The Diet, in principle, rejected the parliamentary report on amnesty. Nevertheless, it approved two bills on preventive detention and freedom of speech.
April 13: Chair Marzouq Al-Ghanem announced that Congress has rejected Congress’s request to postpone the Prime Minister’s grill until the end of the second regular meeting.
April 13: Parliament postponed Dr. Sheikh Basel Arsabah’s question for two weeks.
May 2: Parliamentary Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem received a grilling campaign from MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri against Foreign Minister and State Cabinet Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Sabah and Finance Minister Khalifah Hamada.
May 22: Voters in Kuwait’s 5th constituency head to the polling place to select a representative from 15 candidates in the 16th by-election in the history of the Kuwait Parliament.
May 23: Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem received a grill movement from MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri against Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.
May 23: The Electoral Commission of the 5th constituency announces the winner of Obaid Al-Wasmi, who won 43,810 votes in the 2021 parliamentary supplementary elections.
May 26: MPs Thamer Al-Dhafiri, Khaled Al-Otaibi and Abdulkareem Al-Kanderi submitted a grill movement to Interior Minister Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah.
May 27: Parliament approves a bill to add a state budget budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal year for frontline workers to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
June 9: Kuwait’s Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem arrives in Geneva and meets with President Duarte Pacheco of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Palestine.
June 22: Kuwait’s Parliament approved the state budget for a special meeting for the fiscal year 2021-2022 and referred the bill to the government.
June 23: Parliamentary President Marzouq Al-Ghanem arrives in Brussels for a two-day visit to meet with the representatives of the Arab Parliament, David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, and Eliane Tello, President of the Belgian Parliament.
June 29: Chair Marzouq Al-Ghanem called for a parliamentary session to discuss Kuwait’s financial position before the end of the 16th legislative session of parliament.
October 26: Parliament selects MP Osama Al-Shaheen as an observer and MP Farz Al-Daihani as a secretary.
November 9: Chair Marzouq Al-Ghanem postponed the session following the resignation of the government. — Kuna
