LA rapper YG gives away over 2,000 items in back-to-school campaign
One of Los Angeles' most popular rappers took the time this weekend to give back to the youth of the city.
Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rapper YG hosted a back-to-school support drive in Los Angeles on Sunday, donating backpacks filled with essential school supplies to families in need.
Additionally, several sponsors for the event made donations, including clothing brand Ethika, who donated clothes to help students stay fresh for the upcoming school year.
The effort also partnered with the Los Angeles Mission to provide more than 2,000 boxes of food for families.
Attendees also had the opportunity to enter a raffle with prizes including new laptops, gaming chairs and tickets to the Lakers vs. Clippers game, and could enjoy a hip-hop dance performance by Tommy the Clown and interact with exotic reptiles brought to them by the Wildlife People.
YG, whose real name is Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson, organized the event in partnership with his 4Hunnid Ways Foundation and several local leaders, including Los Angeles City Attorney Heidi Feldstein Soto and City Council Member Karen D. Price Jr.
The rapper's mother, Shawnee Jackson, was presented with a certificate of commendation by the city in recognition of the ongoing work she and her son have done for the community.
The mission of 4Hunnid Ways Foundation is to improve the lives of disadvantaged youth and adults in Compton and throughout the Los Angeles area by providing educational opportunities and experiences, community readjustment programs for those leaving prison, and other personal growth and development programs.
