Earlier Wednesday, Lavrov held talks in Moscow with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amiravdrahian. The two ministers discussed various issues including Ukraine, Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation. The JCPOA Agreement was signed in 2015 by China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Former U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the pact and reimposed sanctions on Tehran in 2018. Between Iran and world powers, the pact was reinstated and the U.S. Negotiations to end sanctions have recently gained momentum. European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Wednesday he hoped a deal to revive the 2015 nuclear deal could be reached within the next few days.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that European leaders will not create new preconditions for restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by calling on Iran to issue a statement on Ukraine. We shared our hopes.
Earlier Wednesday, Lavrov held talks in Moscow with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amiravdrahian. The two ministers discussed various issues including Ukraine, Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation.
“Then Minister. [Amirabdollahian] Some European leaders have asked him to focus on the Ukrainian issue and to convey some message. I hope it’s not a new precondition that could hinder it,” Lavrov said at a joint press conference.
The JCPOA Agreement was signed in 2015 by China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Former President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the agreement in 2018 and reimposed sanctions on Tehran.
Negotiations to revive the deal between Iran and world powers and end US sanctions on Iran’s oil exports have recently gained momentum. On Wednesday, he said he hoped a deal to revive the 2015 nuclear deal could be reached within the next few days.
