Lethal fungal meningitis outbreak linked to beauty procedures in Mexico

The fungus behind an outbreak of harmful nervous system infections in U.S. residents who underwent beauty procedures in Matamoros, Mexico, has been recognized. 

The wrongdoer is Fusarium solani, a fungal species discovered within the atmosphere whose genus has been tied to eye infections and fungal meningitis prior to now, the Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention (CDC) introduced Thursday (June 1).
