Luxembourg lawmakers adopted a law on Tuesday that allows them to pay up to RTL Group 50% increase annually to continue and expand TV, radio and digital programming.

A new contract worth up to € 106 million has been approved by Congress.

The agreement requires the Grand Duchy’s Luxembourg-based but Cologne-operated RTL to pay up to € 15 million annually from 2024 to seven years, plus € 1 million to replace equipment.This deal, which expands the company’s offerings in Luxembourgish, was the first Last year’s prime minister.

RTL’s Luxembourg subsidiary, CLT-UFA, has been producing information, culture and sports programming in Luxembourg since 1995. Until 2020, CLT-UFA and RTL Group produced programs in exchange for the use of broadcast frequencies in Luxembourg. law.

However, as the value of frequencies declined and manufacturing costs increased, the company and the government switched to a contract in 2017 for the government to pay € 10 million annually between 2021 and 2023.

RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg, the only public television channel broadcast in Luxembourg, attracted an average of 138,700 viewers per day last year, down from 153,000 in 2020, according to the company’s annual report released last week. Did.

The new contract includes more youth, science, sports, cultural shows, and English broadcasts. RTL will also undertake the mission of media education and expand its collaboration with the University of Luxembourg.

According to the company’s annual report, RTL generated € 75 million in revenue from Luxembourg advertising and other sources last year. This was 1.1% of the company’s total revenue of 6.6 billion euros. The company said the combination of TV, radio and digital in RTL Luxembourg reached 82% of all Luxembourgers over the age of 15.
