Malaysia Cup adopts knockout format due to time constraints

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 4 (Bernama) — This year’s Malaysia Cup competition will see 16 teams compete in a first-round knockout format in place of the previous group stages.

Regarding the Malaysia Cup schedule, the MFL said that if Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC qualified for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup final, the Malaysia Cup first round would take place on 25 and 26 October. said.

However, if the City Boys fail to reach the AFC Cup final, the first round of the Malaysia Cup will take place on 21 and 22 October.

The first round, quarter-finals and semi-finals of this season’s Malaysia Cup will be played in a home-and-away format, with the final on 26 November at a neutral venue.
