March retail sales index rose 7.7%

According to data released by Statistics Services on Monday, the March 2022 retail sales index increased 7.7% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
The data also showed that during the same month, the retail sales index decreased by 2 percent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
The largest annual increase was recorded in fuel retail, a 37.2% higher compared to March 2021 and a 6.1% increase in quantity.
On the contrary, at non-specialty retailers, the value decreased by 19% and the quantity decreased by 24.4%.
It is estimated that between January and March 2022, the Value Index increased by 9.9% and the Volume Index increased by 1.7% compared to the same period in 2021.
During the first three months of this year, fuel retail increased by 43.4 percent in value and 12.1 percent in quantity.
In March, the largest increase in quantity, reaching 23.2%, was recorded for textiles, garments and footwear, corresponding to a 26.8% increase compared to January 2022.
The largest reductions in both value and quantity during the first three months of 2022 were recorded at non-specialty retailers, at 11% and 15.7%, respectively.
