MediaTek Releases First 6nm G Series Chips in Q3: Report

Taipei: Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek is reportedly planning to release its first 6nm G-series chips by the third quarter of this year.

Gizmo China reports that the company plans to release a new chip based on an advanced 6nm manufacturing process that will replace Helio G96, which is a very popular chipset in itself.

The new G-series 6nm chip will have two Cortex-A76 cores operating at 2.0 GHz and above and six Cortex-A55 cores operating at 2.0 GHz.

Following the performance features of the new MediaTek chip, it can handle cameras with resolutions up to 108MP, 2K video recording at 30 fps, and some other metrics similar to the latest G96 iterations.

MediaTek also plans to launch the Dimensity 8100 chip on March 1st as an overclocked version of the 8000.

The 8100 is released, probably because its predecessor’s CPU frequency is on the more “conservative” side.

The Dimensity 8100 has an octa-core CPU and four Cortex-A78 performance cores are clocked at 2.75GHz. The Dimensity 8000 consists of 4x Cortex-A78 (2.75 GHz) and 4x Cortex-A55 (2.0 GHz) CPU cores.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8000’s AnTuTu benchmark score has reached 750,000 points, surpassing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 and Dimensity 8100 scores and is expected to bring even better scores.
