Men’s Handball Team Wins World Championship Wildcard

Ljubljana – After failing to qualify for the 2023 World Men’s Handball Championship, the Slovenian national team will be competing in a tournament hosted by Sweden and Poland with a special invitation from the International Handball Federation (IHF).

The IHF chose Slovenia and the Netherlands from five European wildcard applicants on Tuesday and welcomed them as a major honor by Franho Bovinak, head of the Slovenian Handball Federation.

“This is the result of the association’s proof of the outstanding organizers of the championship in the junior category in recent years, as well as the general sporting aspects and past achievements, including the 2017 bronze medal in France.” Bovinak commented and mentioned Slovenia, currently hosting the world of U-20 women’s handball and planning to host the world of U-19 boys in 2025.

The 2023 World Championships scheduled for January will be the 10th in Slovenia. The team, which won the silver medal at the 2004 European Men’s Handball Championship and was 4th in the euro in 2020, participated in the semifinals twice, 4th in Spain in 2013 and 3rd in France in 2017. rice field.
