Ministry officials: Energy supply Hungary’s top priority

Attila Steiner said Russia’s decision to shut off gas to Poland and Bulgaria would not affect Hungary’s own supply, and the country was receiving Russian gas in accordance with its contract.

He pointed out that gas is flowing through Bulgaria to Hungary, adding that this is very important to guarantee its supply.

Steiner told members of the Energy Council that Hungary has invested heavily in gas networks over the past few years to build cross-border interconnections. But he said other member states and third countries are needed to secure the necessary gas resources.

He also stated that Hungary’s gas storage capacity is one of the largest in the region.
