Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Erefsis shipyard on Friday.

The prime minister’s visit came after parliament approved a bill on modernizing the shipyards on Wednesday, government sources said. They added that Elefsis Shipyard is a key pillar for Greece’s defense industry.

Moreover, the revival of the shipbuilding industry with the restart, consolidation and upgrade of the Elefsis shipyard will significantly strengthen Greece’s economic and geopolitical position, the sources added.

Serving as a sustainable model for the reopening of Elefsis Shipyards, the deal includes a direct investment of $170 million, retention of all 600 current jobs, retroactive payments of €41 million to employees and Compensation, creation of 1,400 new jobs within 3 years (2,000 in total), €1.1 billion in additional revenue for the Greek state from direct and indirect taxes and insurance contributions over the next 25 years, and over €1.6 billion in strengthening the Greek economy By domestic suppliers and the Greek industry.
