Morocco and China have signed an agreement to enter into a strategic partnership between the two countries as part of Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The agreement, a roadmap for joint implementation of major Chinese projects, was signed at a video conference ceremony on Wednesday by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Chinese official Ning Jizhe.

According to a statement from the Moroccan government, this partnership aims to promote cooperation in infrastructure, trade, investment, industry, agriculture and more.

It aims to facilitate access to China’s financing to carry out large-scale projects in Morocco.

Under the agreement, Beijing has promised to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Morocco. Morocco became the first Maghreb country to join the initiative in 2017.

Ning Jizhe said China’s direct investment in the country reached $ 380 million.

The agreement also provides for tripartite cooperation with Africa, especially in sustainable development.

Launched in 2013, Beijing’s vast $ 1 trillion Belt and Road Infrastructure Initiative aims to improve trade relations with countries around the world by building ports, railroads, airports and industrial zones. is.
