WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – NASA will retry the Artemis moon rocket launch on Saturday, space agency Artemis mission manager Mike Sarafin said on a conference call with reporters.

“We also agreed to change the release date to Saturday, September 3rd,” Sarafin said Tuesday.

On Monday, NASA canceled a planned Artemis rocket’s lunar orbit test flight after a series of failures, including engine problems, hydrogen leaks and stormy weather off the coast of Florida.

Sarafin added that Artemis will set a two-hour launch window on Saturday to start at 2:17 PM ET (6:17 PM GMT).

NASA's lunar rocket will be ready within 24 hours of launch on Pad 39B for the Artemis 1 mission to orbit the Moon on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. - Sputnik International, 1920, August 30, 2022

Artemis 1 launch canceled as NASA chief touts ‘space race’

Charlie Blackwell-Thompson, NASA’s Artemis launch director, said that if Saturday’s launch was canceled due to weather problems, another launch attempt could be made on Monday.

NASA officials said they plan to start cooling the RS-25 engine at the bottom of the core stage early to bring it into the proper temperature range for liftoff, and the hydrogen leak will be fixed at the pads later this week. That is scheduled.
