National theater teachers resign en masse, protest in solidarity with drama school students

A total of 42 teachers at the National Theater of Greece (NTG) drama school resigned Wednesday in solidarity with their students over the controversial presidential decree.

On the same day, protests were held with slogans calling for the resignation of Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.

The NTG’s Drama School Teachers Association protested a decree equating a drama school diploma with a high school diploma.

At a press conference on January 24, teachers at the National Theater warned that they would resign if the government did not amend the decree by February 8.

Protesting students have occupied the grounds of the Ziller Building of the National Theater in downtown Athens since February 5 over the same issue, and also staged a large-scale protest on Wednesday.
